SchoolFest
Welcome to newcomers to SchoolFest, and welcome back if you were one of the 11,000 students and teachers involved in SchoolFest 2008!
The 2010 programme provides students with unparalleled access to top notch performances and opportunities to take part in behind-the-scenes tours and workshops, organised just for them.
The SchoolFest team are thrilled to present a range of world-class events in 2010.
Come aboard a land of flying ships and travelling balloons in the near-wordless production of The Arrival adapted from an award-winning graphic novel by Shaun Tan. Find out what happened to Red Riding Hood as she went through the forest and whether Bilbo and Legolas reach their destinations in the quirky concert Dirty Beasts and Other Stories. Step inside an enchanting travelling theatre tent to discover The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy, a weird, wonderful and captivating performance that canvasses both the dark and delightful aspects of human existence.
Our SchoolFest Workshops programme runs exclusively for students and is a terrific chance to attend sessions facilitated by some of the world's best artists, directors, musicians, choreographers and technicians.
In 2010, our programme features: an opportunity for senior dance students to observe celebrated Australian choreographer Shaun Parker take a master class with students from the New Zealand School of Dance; Making Theatre in Māoriland provides a fascinating look at Taki Rua Productions' latest creation and is perfect for budding theatre practitioners; students interested in jazz can observe legendary musician Branford Marsalis share his experience with New Zealand School of Music Jazz students. These are just a few of the workshops on offer.
New Zealand Post Writers and Readers Schools Day is back in 2010 with four thought-provoking sessions designed to get students excited about the written word. Younger students will also be able to meet Neil Gaiman, one of the world's bestselling writers of modern comics and books for readers of all ages.
New to SchoolFest in 2010 is SchoolFest 101 - a guide for both students and teachers on how to get the most out of their Festival experience, as well as links to websites, resources and other helpful stuff. Stay tuned to this page for regular updates.
The online SchoolFest Review Competition also returns for the 2010 Festival. It offers students the chance to win great prizes and to get a written review published online. So now's the time to remind students to start polishing up their review writing skills!
We're looking forward to bringing you SchoolFest 2010 and promise you an inspiring, challenging and entertaining experience.
See you at the Festival!
