A 200-year view of the string quartet, with works written in 1810, 1910 and 2010. Ten includes the world premiere of Ross Harris's The Abiding Tides, which sets the poems of Vincent O'Sullivan for soprano and string quartet. These songs express the high hopes and the desperation of those who sank in the Titanic nearly 100 years ago and those illegal immigrants who continue to lose their lives at sea.
Schubert: Quartet in G Minor/Bb major
Alban Berg: String Quartet Opus 3
Ross Harris: The Abiding Tides (world premiere)
Beethoven: String Quartet No. 11 in F minor Opus 95 with Jenny Wollerman (soprano)

This was the ideal festival concert. Titled Ten, it was built around the dates 1810, 1910 and 2010, with each work playing off against the other in a fashion that was intriguing and rewarding.
