‘It's 11 o'clock in the morning in a council flat on the Walworth Road. In two hours' time, as is normal, three Irish men will have consumed six cans of beer, 15 crackers with spreadable cheese and one oven-cooked chicken with a strange blue sauce. In two hours' time, as is normal, five people will have been killed.'

Set on the 15th floor of a tower block on London's Walworth Road, The Walworth Farce is a blend of madcap humour and the darker, deeper concerns pivotal to human existence. Winner of the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe First award in 2007, this "ferociously entertaining" production tells the story of a dangerously nostalgic father and the two sons caught up in his ludicrous yearnings for life in Ireland.

Written by multi-award-winning Irish playwright Enda Walsh, and currently on an extensive world tour, The Walworth Farce has enjoyed phenomenal success in Edinburgh, New York, London and Ireland. Walsh first shot to fame in 1997 with Disco Pigs, a widely successful play which he later adapted for film. His work as a screenwriter has proved the talented writer worthy of many accolades - the film Hunger, co-written with Steve McQueen, won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.

The Walworth Farce is a perfect match for trailblazing Irish theatre company Druid. The talented cast effortlessly combine dramatic intensity with sidesplitting hilarity to deliver this tender insight into what happens when we become trapped in the stories we tell ourselves about our lives.

Theatrical games are afoot in The Walworth Farce, a tragi-comedy set 15 floors up in a squalid South London council falt where Irshman Dinny and his two sons, Blake and Sean, live in their own insulated world and where they carry out a daily ritual that they have apparently been doing for nearly 20 years.

Language and its Opposite The longer you work in theater the more intriguing it becomes. The basic fact that audiences are able to look across an imaginary line and see into a different time and place becomes more remarkable the longer you ponder it.
