Te Papa

Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa ( Te Papa)

New Zealand's innovative and interactive national museum is set in a breathtaking location on Wellington's waterfront. The Museum has attracted over 16 million visitors since opening in 1998 and is a ‘must see' on any visitor's itinerary.

Explore the great treasures and stories of this country - its unique natural environment, Mäori culture and taonga (treasures), art heritage, and fascinating history.

With a combination of the latest technology and classic story-telling, Te Papa educates, entertains and inspires. Experience an exquisitely carved marae, walk through living native bush, and be shaken in the Earthquake House. Get hands-on in Discovery Centres, then come face to face with a colossal squid and explore its life through 3-D animation. Venture into Our Space, a multimedia adventure and adrenalin-filled motion simulator rides.

Daily guided tours and a range of private guided tours are delivered by highly entertaining and knowledgeable hosts.
